Father Jim O'Shea

Father Jim O’Shea - priest, social worker, and community organizer- began his tenure in Brooklyn in 1997.  In 2002, he founded Churches United Corp. - a coalition of 19 Catholic Churches that successfully advocated for the creation of thousands of units of affordable housing in North Brooklyn. Father O’Shea also led the process for the opening of a Cristo Rey Network High School in Brooklyn serving low income families. In 2010, he established the Vernon Avenue Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the mission of engaging young people of the neighborhood through entrepreneurship, education and leadership. In 2014, Reconnect was launched as part of the organization with the goal of teaching entrepreneurship firsthand through the upstart of real businesses in the community.

Efrain Hernandez

Associate Director

Efrain is the associate director of Reconnect Brooklyn and a co-founder of the organization. Born and bred in Bedford Stuyvesant, Efrain survived many obstacles to arrive at his place as role model and mentor to youth. Efrain is also the manager of Reconnect Cafe and has led its development over the past three years. In January 2017, Efrain will enroll in college and begin his journey towards a degree while continuing his work with reconnect Brooklyn.

LAMONT HILL

MANAGER: RECONNECT GRAPHICS

Lamont grew up on Vernon Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant and continues to love his community. He was the founding manager of Reconnect Graphics & Apparel in 2014 and has led the growth of the business and of the eyeing men he mentors.  Lamont is the married father of five children, and recently earned the National Federation of Retail Management certification.

RON OBERDICK

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Ron began to volunteer with Reconnect in 2013 as a way to spend his retirement and offer wisdom to the next generation. After a very successful career as a business owner and operator, Ron now volunteers as the CFO of Reconnect as well as a mentor to the young managers.

DAYTOINE SHAW

MANAGER: RECONNECT BAKERY

Daytoine is the founding manager of Reconnect Bakery.  Born and asked in Brooklyn, Dayton brings hard won wisdom, real life lessons and excellent baking ability to the young men in his care. Dayton is leading the re-development of the Bakery as a cooke brand and a wholesale business expansion plan.

PETER COLLAZO

EDUCATION DIRECTOR

Peter is the Education Center Director for Reconnect Brooklyn. Peter received his Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College, where he majored in political science. There he coordinated an access and support program for students with their high school equivalency and was also the Tutoring Coordinator for SEEK’s Learning and Study Center. He also received his Master of Public Administration from NYU Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. His specialization was public nonprofit management.
